What was the religious ceremony like? Shirley - I thought I was going to cry all the time but I didn't
Shirley: It all began at Cultura.We met here, started a friendship and then at one Halloween Party (1994) our relationship started getting more serious.
CT - What is the greatest difference between being engaged and being married?
Shirley: Living together is the basic difference. We have a bigger responsibility now, which is taking care of our house, paying the 'IPTU' (which is the saddest part), shopping for food, cooking (which I love doing) and things like that.
Shirley: It's good most of the times because we share ideas. We have different styles so one can help the other a lot. There's nothing bad about it, I think.
CT - What was the religious ceremony like?
Shirley: I thought I was going to cry all the time but I didn't. I wanted to see who was there as it was such a special moment. I really wanted to feel those four minutes it took me to get to
Alex: (I know it took four minutes because of the song - Monte Castelo).
Alex: At first I thought I would get very nervous. But when the moment finally arrived, I realized I was as calm as a groom can be. Seeing Shirley walk into the church and down the aisle was a breathtaking sight.
CT - What about the honeymoon? Where did you travel to?
Alex: Everything was fine despite the bad weather. We went on a tour of Florianópolis and spent two days in Beto Carrero world. So, the weather wasn't a problem, after all. We had a lot of fun over there. I look forward to going back there again.
Shirley - The honeymoon was excellent, except for the bad weather. We went to Floripa, Blumenau (where we spent one day sightseeing) and Beto Carrero (that one for two days). Altogether, we spent seven days in St. Catarina.
CT - If you were not English teachers what would you be?
Alex - Maybe a computer technician, but I'm not sure.
Shirley: I would try to be a singer, or a director or something involving Arts (Scenic, of course). Did you know that Alex is a flight attendant?
CT - Do you have a song?
Shirley - We've got several songs, which is why we have a CD with some of them
CT - What does Cultura Inglesa mean to both your personal and professional lives?
Shirley: I started studying here when I was a child, and I grew up and spent my adolescence here. These walls are part of my story.
Alex: Cultura Inglesa plays a major role in my life. Like Shirley, I spent the happiest years of my life here. This is the place where I grew up, my second home, that is. If I have been successful in life, both professionally and personally Cultura Inglesa has significantly contributed to it happening.
CT - Shirley, what do you like the most about Alex?
Shirley: Alex is very honest and has a lot of faith in God.
CT - Alex, what do you like the most about Shirley?
Alex: Her patience is her greatest virtue.
CT - When you are alone, do you speak to each other in English or
Portuguese?
Alex: We talk mostly in Portuguese (I don't know why). But there are times when Portuguese fails up and we resort to English to keep the ball rolling.
Shirley: Our language at home is a bit mixed. It's 95% Portuguese, but sometimes one of us forgets a word in Portuguese and says it in English.
CT - When you have children, will you speak to them in Portuguese or
English?
Shirley: Maybe we'll start teaching him or her a few words in English, but we haven't talked about it yet.
CT - What are your plans for the next thirty years?
Shirley: I hope we can continue respecting one another and building things together.
Alex: I hope we'll still be living true love and I honestly hope we will
already have fulfilled our dreams. That's what I really hope for.
